The Fox Cities marathon is scheduled to be run on Sunday morning, September 23. Again this year, the marathon route will begin just down the street from our church.
The marathon begins at the UW Fox Valley Campus and comes straight down past our church. The full marathon starts at 7:00am, and the half marathon starts five minutes later. Midway Road will be closed between UW Fox Valley and our church from 6:45am until about 7:30am. The Oneida St./Midway Rd. intersection will be closed from 7:00-7:20am. Midway Road east of our church will only be closed until 7:45am. This will make it easy to access our church for the 8:00am service. Oneida Street south of the river will be closed most of the morning. Therefore the easiest way to get to our church from west or north of the river will be on US-441. You should be able to get off the freeway at Oneida street and come down to our church anytime after 7:30am. Our worship and education schedules that morning will not change. In the past few years, a group of us have been coming early to gather at the road and sing hymns or songs as the runners pass by. It has been a great witness that is gratefully received by the runners and walkers. Every year, when the marathon is over, we receive thank you notes from some of the runners.
If the weather is good, anyone who is willing and able can gather at church for a hymn sing at the road at about 7:00am. We will enjoy singing God’s praises as a witness to all the runners and walkers. It’s a blast and a great witness to 4,000 people.
If you are participating in the marathon as a runner or volunteer, you may worship at your church on Monday evening, September 24.
