SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE CLASS
Course: THE DIVINE CALL — A Bible Study and Review of Practice
Time: Sundays from 9:25-10:25 am
Location: Eternal Love Lutheran Church (also live streamed via Microsoft Teams - email Pastor.Backus@eternal-love.org for the link)
Instructor: Pastor Dave Backus
Description: How did ministry differ before, during, and after Jesus’ and the apostles’ time? What is a divine call? What happens when a pastor receives a call? How is that decision made? How does a congregation go about issuing a call? Our next Sunday morning Bible study opportunity (beginning on Jan. 3) will review the Bible’s teaching of the ministry, and work toward a discussion about the divine call. We will discuss our own national church body’s practices regarding what happens when a pastor or teacher moves from one ministry to another. When a pastor receives, deliberates, and declines/accepts a divine call from Christ through the congregation, there are many differences and some similarities in how that works compared to the secular world. This Bible study is especially helpful for members who are new to WELS and/or Eternal Love, but this study aims to be a blessing for all—for congregational leaders, individuals, and families to participate in. We will gain a humble appreciation for the way the Lord of the Church cares for his people.

This book shows how God nurtures these fruits, how the sinful nature impacts them, how Jesus demonstrated them perfectly, and how the gospel helps them blossom and flourish. Each lesson emphasizes the truth that roots sunk deep into God's Word will yield a harvest.
